STUFF I LIKE - Ben Caldwell's Wonder Woman Manga

I mentioned Ben Caldwell's Manga Wonder Woman yesterday, so i thought i would share some of the concept art behind that project today.

Basically so far as i can tell Manga Wonder Woman came from his working on the character for the Wednesday Comics anthology. It's an idea for a series he is putting together to pitch to DC... hopefully successfully.

As with Wednesday Comics he has put an astonishing amount of thought and research into this thing. Just browse his blog and read some of the little notes scribbled in the margins of his design sketches, which hint at some very exciting ideas and snippets of story. He seems to have taken the characters back to basics, then tweaked them ingeneously and subtly to make them seem much more fun and interesting than they have been in a very long time.

Here's a look at his version of Hippolyta...

And here are some of his really fun/creepy villain makeovers from the Wednesday Comics storyline...

He even makes the invisible jet seem cool...

And to finish off here is a look at a page from the manga...

I'm sure you will agree it looks stunning.

I so wanna see this comic come to fruition, so please help out by reblogging/retweeting. I'll probably have a Facebook "cause" set up sometime over the weekend too, which folks can join and show their support.

I'll be posting an interview with Ben sometime in the next week hopefully, so until then please check out his blog and show the guy some love.

Wow, that art is simply stunning. It feels like manga + some Western influence too.

I really dig the fluidity of the character designs.

Nice!

I usually hate anything manga/anime but this looks so far from that its great. Almost reminds me a little of a Bruce Timm animation
