Casting Call - Dan Dare

As we all know fanboys can't resist having an opinion on how things "should" be done, and this business with Sam Worthington and Dare Dare started me thinking.

Here then is my attempt at casting the main Dan Dare characters...

Dan Dare - Michael Fassbender

Colonel Dare is your typical old-fashioned British adventurer. As i said in my previous post think of those urbane and unflappable stiff-upper-lipped types you used to see in WWII movies... Michael Redgrave or David Niven or Roger Moore or one of those.

My first choice for this used to be Ralph Fiennes, but alas he is looking a bit rough these days and his hairline seems to be receding alarmingly.

I think after seeing his turn in Inglourious Basterds recently that Michael Fassbender would be the perfect man to bring this iconic character to life. He is a very talented and versatile actor whose star is on the rise, he isn't too old to do sequals, and he isn't yet so big as to be too costly.

Professor Jocelyn Peabody - Emily Blunt

Professor Peabody is a research biologist and an accomplished pilot. Very capable and independant. Her character was notable in the 1950s for not being the typical simpering damsel who needed rescuing constantly. Peabody was more of a friend and colleague than a love interest, but i assume that would change if they made a movie.

Emily Booth has all the fiesty qualities required for this role, and is another rising star who wouldn't send the budget soaring. And of course she is a hottie.

Albert Digby - Jim Broadbent

Digby is the dependable sidekick and comic relief. A family man with a good heart, and someone who isn't afraid to roll up his sleeves and get stuck in.

Jim Broadbent is always reliable, and the physical resemblance is uncanny.

Sir Hubert Guest

Sir Hubert is Dan's commanding officer. An Old Etonian type and a father figure.

It's the sort of role John Cleese could play in his sleep, and again there is a strong resemblance to the character.

The Mekon - Jared Harris

Cold, intellectual, and annoyingly smug. The Mekon is the douchebag dictator of Venus who becomes Dan's greatest enemy.

Jared Harris has all the necessary qualities, and does creepy villainy exceptionally. Great actor. Also, is it just me or does he kinda look a bit Mekon-ish? With a bit of CGI trickery i think he would be perfect.

And that's that.

But i'm no casting director, and i doubt TPTB are reading this blog.

Anyway what do you guys think? Got ideas of your own? Share 'em in the comments section, or just lemme know how bad my choices suck...

And Fassbender has both the eyebrows and the chin for it. Let's start a campaign!

Definitely, I think Fassbender would be a good choice! :)

You clearly have a vocation for casting. Get yourself over to Hollywood and show them how its done!

When you go, wear an outfit that compliments your body type and skin tone. Don't wear a lot of makeup and be confident. Be personable and ask questions if you have them. Find out when they will let you know whether they want you to join their agency. Make a note of the time frame they give you.
